My professor once said that everyone should have their fair share of point-of-view (POV) or opinion, because opinions are considered to be part of their anatomy. I used to work for a General Manager who will go around the room after each meeting to ask for our point of view. I treasured the time given to each one of us as it inspires our thinking and cultivates confidence in speaking up. She made it a safe environment for us and this is when ideas blossom.
We are now living in a rapidly evolving landscape of work, and the traditional values are being redefined. As we navigate the complexities of the modern workplace, it’s essential to explore the emerging work values that are shaping the future. This POV blog post delves into three unconventional work values that are gaining traction and transforming the way we view and approach our careers. You may choose to discuss any of these points in your next meeting.
1. Purpose-Driven Productivity:
The mantra we have in our workplace is to increase our productivity at work. However, a sense of purpose is becoming the driving force behind employee productivity. There are many companies today successfully integrating purpose into their work culture and the positive impact on employee engagement and satisfaction. These companies made their purpose visible and communicate regularly. This helped the employees understand why their work matters, stay focused on delivering results and in turn increases productivity.
2. Remote Work Realities:
As we examine the shift towards remote work and the values associated with it. The importance of flexibility, autonomy, and work-life balance cannot be undermined. Ask for POV and highlight success stories of companies embracing remote work and share tips for creating a thriving virtual work environment. One example could be a ‘buddy system’ where a mentor-mentee or coach-coachee relationship helps create a network with a seven-degree of separation.
3. Embracing Diversity and Inclusion:
There is an increased emphasis on diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Many companies are recognizing the value of diverse perspectives and creating inclusive cultures. Some organizations took stride in this area by forming global teams and recognizing leaders from different countries to cultivate a sense of teamwork with a winning mentality. This can only be achieved by leaders who walk the talk and not just provide lip service. Remember, it’s not what you say but what you do that speaks for itself. In summary, as the world of work continues to evolve, staying attuned to these unconventional work values can be the key to personal and professional success. We will embrace purpose, flexibility and diversity, and contribute to a workplace revolution that not only benefits individuals but also shapes a more progressive and fulfilling future of work.
